postgraduate

The postgraduate programme at the Faculty of Education for Girls - History Department (Master's in Modern History) was introduced in the academic year 2021-2022. Students will obtain a Master's degree in Modern History. The programme is offered on a semester basis, with a total of 26 credits for the two semesters and 10 credits for the thesis.

تاسس قسم التاريخ العام الدراسي 2008-2009 ويهدف الى تخريج طالبات متمكنات من تدريس مادة التاريخ في المؤسسات التربوية المختلفة .

Introducing the history and civilisation of our nation to benefit from it as lessons and morals in our contemporary lives and developing the historical research skills of the department's students.

Vision

يعد التاريخ جزءاساسياً من بنية الشخصية العراقية التي يمتد جذورها الى اكثرمن  سبعة الاف عام ومن هذا المنطلق تعد مناهج التاريخ وسيلة من وسائل التواصل الفكري والحضاري بين الماضي والحاضر نظراً الى ما يزخر به تاريخنا من فكر حضاري وسياسي يؤكد على قيمة المرأة العراقية وحقها في العيش الكريم على ارض العراق لذا يطمح قسم التاريخ في كلية التربية للبنات ليكون واحداً من الأقسام العلمية المتميزة والرائدةبنظامها التربوي في التعليم الجامعي والبحث العلمي

مناهج التاريخ في مضمونها رسالة إنسانية شاملة تستنهض القيم الأخلاقية والانسانية من الحضارات القديمة والحضارة الإسلامية تؤكد ومناهج قسم التاريخ على أهمية العناصر الثلاثة للتعليم وهي الأستاذ – الطالب – المادة العلمية من اجل اعداد كوادر تربوية وعلمية ويكون لها دوراً في بناء العراقأهداف :

  • – تنمية القدرات والقابليات لدى الطلبة وتسليحهم بسلاح العلم والمعرفة وزجهم في سوق العمل
  • – تمكين الطلبة من استخدام المهارات وآليات البحث العلمي مما يجعلهم متقنين لعملهم في مجال تخصصهم العلمي
  • -الاطلاع على تجارب الأمم والشعوب واكتساب الخبرات من مسيرة التاريخ وتوظيفها في بناء المجتمع العراقي والتركيز على التسامح والتعايش السلمي
  • – بناء شخصية الطلبة بموضوعيهبغية دراسة التاريخ ووضع حلول لإشكالياته والتي ستلقي بظلالها على مسيرة العراق سواء كانت في الجانب الاجتماعي ام السياسي ام الاقتصادي
  • – الاعتماد على التقنيات الحديثة في التدريس واكساب الطلبة مهارات التدريس وفق الأسس العلمية الحديثة باستخدام التكنلوجيا المتطورة

    History Department

    Brief description:

    The History Department is one of the founding departments of the college. It was established in the College of Education for Girls in 2004, and its curriculum was modelled on that of other education colleges in Iraqi universities. Seventeen cohorts have graduated from the department, and its graduates have been employed in many secondary and preparatory schools affiliated with the Ministry of Education, as well as other departments. Many of the top students have gone on to pursue postgraduate studies, and some have taken up teaching positions in scientific departments at various Iraqi universities. The department also undertakes an academic and national mission, and humanitarian role of creating historical culture, which qualifies students in this department to be able to teach this subject and contribute to writing the history of Iraq, the Arab world, and humanity in general.

      The scientific aspects of humanities studies revolve around a single orbit, which is the study of humans and their culture in a scientific manner using critical and analytical approaches to questions related to human values and the human ability to express oneself. The humanities differ from other academic disciplines in their content and approach. They are described as the analytical study of human experiences and activities, and the knowledge of the mechanisms by which humans process and document their experiences. وThe study of history provides individuals and societies with indicators on the ways and mechanisms for achieving future development and progress by examining and studying the cultural, political, social and economic events and repercussions associated with human society, which vary according to time and place. Hence the importance of studying history, as it inspires individuals, nations and societies to strive for a better future by drawing on the past and the previous experiences of human society in bringing about historical changes.

      This is the task of scholars in this field, which is accorded great importance by countries and peoples in teaching their national and human history. This discipline now employs a variety of methods, including seminars and scientific conferences, and encourages students to write about various historical issues and problems.

    The department aspires to leadership and excellence in the field of humanities and educational studies and to achieve quality in educational and pedagogical fields, making it an academically and research-wise distinguished institution at the local, regional and global levels.

    To develop individuals to become teachers and educators equipped with theoretical and practical knowledge in the fields of humanities and behavioural sciences, thereby ensuring sustainable human development and highlighting human capabilities in line with the requirements of the modern era. This is achieved through the introduction of specific specialisations in history, as well as specialisations in ancient history, Islamic history, modern and contemporary history) that meet the needs of society.

    Objectives

    1. The department seeks to prepare teachers who are specialised in history and professionally and educationally qualified to teach in middle and preparatory schools, teacher training colleges, and teacher training institutes.
    2. Preparing qualified academic staff to study at corresponding universities and colleges, specialising in ancient, Islamic and modern contemporary history.
    3. To qualify graduates of the department in preliminary studies for preparing research and studies, especially in student graduation research. Graduates should be qualified to pursue postgraduate studies.
    4. Affirming the civilisational and humanitarian role of Arabs in the past and their ability to draw inspiration from their history in a new civilisational leap forward that enhances the status of Arab countries and their role in building contemporary human civilisation. وBoosting students' confidence in embarking on building a contemporary civilisation by highlighting the study of Arab and Islamic civilisation.
    5. History is a means to a better understanding of contemporary relations between peoples, serving the goals of cooperation for peace, freedom and progress.
    6. Protecting students against calls to separate ancient heritage from Arab heritage, and emphasising that the two complement each other.
    7. Informing students about the experiences of peoples in overcoming the circumstances of isolation they are going through, through the use of reason and diligent and organised work.
    8. Follow up on publications within the field of history in countries in the region in order to deepen and develop history curricula.
    9. Help students understand that history is a field of human knowledge that is no less important or necessary than any other field of knowledge. Deepen students' belief that the will and determination of peoples can bring about positive historical events.
    10. Make it clear to students that the will and determination of peoples can achieve miracles, as evidenced by the Italian and German unifications that took place in the 1860s and 1870s.
    11. Teaching students to adhere to sound scientific methodology and strive for accuracy and credibility in analysing and revealing historical events, because the credibility of historical truth lends credibility to human experience and means that lessons can be learned properly, in addition to the fact that any falsification of facts will be exposed.
    12. Work to make students understand that different approaches to interpreting history are subject to error and correction, which means that students should not accept them as established facts. However, studying them enables students to acquire knowledge that allows them to discern what is being presented to them, regardless of the arguments and methods used to persuade them.
